One-Way Video Interview Software: 8 Tools Compared, and the Voice Alternative
Eight one-way video interview tools compared by features, who each suits and published prices, plus when a camera-free voice or chat interview works better.
One-way video interview software lets candidates record answers to a fixed set of questions on camera, whenever it suits them, and lets recruiters watch the recordings later. It takes scheduling out of the first round, and a reviewer can get through a stack of recorded answers faster than a stack of phone calls. The trade-offs are that nobody can ask a follow-up question, and every candidate needs a camera and the confidence to talk to it.
This page compares eight one-way video interview tools: Hireflix, HireVue, Interviewer.AI, myInterview (now part of Radancy), Spark Hire, Talview Ivy, VidCruiter and Willo. Some have added AI scoring or an AI interviewer; others keep it simple. It ends with two camera-free alternatives, for teams deciding whether video is the right first-round format at all.
Dio makes DIO, one of the tools on this page. Details checked on October 13, 2026 from each vendor's own website (other sources are named where used); products and prices change, so check the vendor's site before deciding.

What is a one-way video interview?
A one-way video interview, also called an asynchronous, on-demand or pre-recorded interview, is a set of questions the candidate answers on camera with nobody on the other end. The recruiter writes the questions, or records them as short videos, and decides how long the candidate gets to think, how long each answer can run and whether retakes are allowed. The candidate opens a link, records their answers, and the hiring team watches, rates and shares the recordings later.
Most tools now add transcription, and many add AI summaries or scores. Some have gone further and added an AI interviewer that asks follow-up questions, which blurs the line with two-way AI interviews. Our comparison of AI screening interview formats sets one-way video beside phone, chat and voice interviews.
When does one-way video work, and when doesn't it?
One-way video works well when:
- Seeing the candidate is part of the job. For customer-facing, sales or teaching roles, how someone presents on camera is relevant evidence.
- Several people need to review the same answers. A hiring manager, a recruiter and a peer can each watch the same recording on their own time.
- The questions are fixed and well designed. One-way video is a structured interview by nature: every candidate gets the same questions in the same order.
It works less well when:
- Candidates don't have a camera, privacy or time. Hourly applicants applying from a phone between shifts, or anyone without a quiet room, may not finish.
- The second question matters more than the first. A recorded answer can't be probed. A vague answer stays vague, and a prepared answer is hard to tell from real experience.
- Reviewers judge delivery instead of content. Without a scorecard, reviewers drift toward confidence and polish. Rating each answer against written anchors, as in our interview scorecard template, keeps the focus on what was said.
Which one-way video interview tools are worth comparing?
The eight tools below are listed alphabetically. Each entry covers what the tool does, who it suits, what it costs and what to check, drawn from the vendor's own pages.
Hireflix
Hireflix is one-way video interview software that, by its own account, thousands of businesses, institutions and recruiters use. Recruiters ask questions by video or text, set the timing for each and allow retakes; candidates arrive through an application link or a bulk CSV invitation, with reminders by email, SMS and WhatsApp. Reviewers rate, comment and download interviews. Automatic transcription is the only AI feature it names. Candidates can answer in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Finnish, Polish, German and 10 more languages. It integrates with Lever, BambooHR, Teamtailor, Recruitee, JazzHR, SmartRecruiters, Greenhouse, Workable, Ashby, TalentClue and 50skills, plus Zapier, Make and an API, and offers SSO and automatic video deletion.
Who it suits: small teams that want the lowest published price for unlimited one-way video.
Pricing: published. Small, for companies under 50 employees, is $75 a month billed yearly; Medium, for 50 to 250 employees, is $150 a month billed yearly. Both include unlimited users, positions and interviews. Larger employers and agencies get custom pricing, the trial is one month, and monthly prices aren't shown; the page says annual billing saves 50%.
What to check: if you want AI scoring or summaries, Hireflix doesn't name either.
HireVue
HireVue runs on-demand, one-way video interviews on any device with no app to install, and live interviews in HireVue, Zoom, Teams or Webex, alongside assessments, scheduling and conversational AI over SMS and WhatsApp. It offers more than 1,000 job-specific interview guides, sorts on-demand results into Top, Middle and Low tiers, and recommends allowing one or two retakes. Its explainability statement says the AI relies only on what the candidate says, transcribed by Rev.ai, and uses no video analysis or other audio characteristics; SHRM reported in February 2021 that HireVue had stopped using facial analysis. In June 2026 HireVue added a voice AI Interviewer for two-way interviews.
Who it suits: large enterprises that want video, assessments and scheduling from one vendor.
Pricing: not published; HireVue sells through demos.
What to check: on-demand video needs a camera, while the new AI Interviewer is voice-based, so be clear which one you're buying. Our page on HireVue alternatives goes deeper.
Interviewer.AI
Interviewer.AI describes itself as an end-to-end AI video interview platform for hiring teams, staffing agencies and universities, and also offers mock interviews for job seekers. Candidates record one-way AI video interviews, and from the Professional plan an AI avatar can hold a conversational interview. It gives AI summaries and scoring; candidates can answer in 13 languages, though it says scoring works best in English and major global languages. Professional adds fraud checks: multiple-voice detection, lip-sync anomaly flags and flags for screen or prompt assistance.
Who it suits: teams that want self-serve, published pricing for video screening with AI scoring.
Pricing: published. Essential is $199 a month for 50 credits, 20-minute interviews and 3 job posts; Professional is $399 a month for 120 credits, 30-minute interviews, the avatar and the fraud checks; Enterprise is custom. Credits roll over, a conversational interview uses 2 credits, annual billing gives 2 months free, and the trial is 14 days with up to 5 assessments.
What to check: ATS integrations, including Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, Greenhouse, SmartRecruiters and Bullhorn, are on Enterprise only.
myInterview (now Radancy)
Radancy acquired the one-way video interview vendor myInterview in September 2025, as Unleash reported at the time. When we checked on October 13, 2026, myinterview.com redirected to Radancy's Screening & Scheduling page, which doesn't mention myInterview. Radancy describes candidates recording answers to screening questions at their convenience, with retakes and voice or text alternatives, and AI that transcribes video answers into a screening score that surfaces top matches. An AI agent books and reschedules interviews through Teams, Outlook and Google Calendar, and Radancy also describes conversational AI screening.
Who it suits: employers already on Radancy's Talent Acquisition Cloud.
Pricing: not published. Free and paid tiers listed on third-party sites may no longer apply.
What to check: whether myInterview can still be bought on its own, and which languages and ATSs are supported, since the page we read names neither.
Spark Hire
Spark Hire offers one-way and live video interviews, a behavioral assessment and an ATS, Recruit, for small and mid-sized organizations, and says more than 10,000 organizations use it. Recruiters set think time and answer limits, and invitations go by link, SMS or CSV, with reminders. AI transcribes answers in 50+ languages, writes summaries and scores against key factors; there is no AI interviewer. Its pricing page says 40+ ATS integrations while its homepage says 100+ providers, and Dayforce, UKG Pro and Workday are paid add-ons.
Who it suits: small and mid-sized teams that want unlimited one-way video at a published price.
Pricing: published. Video Interviews starts at $299 a month paid monthly, for up to 5 users and 5 jobs, or $249 a month billed annually, with unlimited users and jobs. One-way and live interviews are unlimited, and the "starting at" prices vary by company size. The Recruit ATS starts at $335 a month on an annual contract.
What to check: candidates need a camera, and a one-way answer can't be followed up. If those are your reasons for leaving, the alternatives at the end of this page are the place to look.
Talview Ivy
Talview sells AI proctoring and AI interviewing to exam providers and hiring teams, and pitches Ivy, its AI interviewer, as video interview software built for high-volume hiring. Candidates take an asynchronous video interview in the browser and speak their answers, with the camera and microphone on throughout and a visible time limit on each question. Unlike a classic one-way tool, Ivy asks follow-up questions in real time, and it reports transcripts and scoring metrics. Talview's page says Ivy interprets non-verbal cues, and that it supports multiple languages without listing them.
Who it suits: organizations that want interviewing and proctoring from one vendor.
Pricing: not published. Talview says pricing is unit-based, with a minimum commitment of roughly 150 to 200 candidates, and pilots of more than 10 candidates may be charged.
What to check: if you want answers judged on content alone, ask how non-verbal cues feed the scores. No ATS is named on the pages we read.
VidCruiter
VidCruiter is an interview platform for enterprise and high-volume hiring, with hourly, K-12, public sector, admissions, contact centers, manufacturing and RPO among its industries. It covers pre-recorded and live video, in its own rooms, Zoom or Teams, along with scheduling, references, skills tests, proctoring and an ATS. It says automated scoring evaluates every response against role-specific rubrics and ranks candidates by fit, with summaries and transcripts in English and French, and that fraud detection flags impersonation and unauthorized assistance. ATS integrations include Dayforce, Workday, SAP, Oracle, ADP and UKG.
Who it suits: public-sector and enterprise teams that need English and French, scheduling and proctoring in one platform.
Pricing: not published; buyers fill in a quote form.
What to check: its AI Interviewer was marked "coming soon" when we checked, so don't buy on it yet.
Willo
Willo is asynchronous candidate screening for high-volume, graduate and frontline hiring. Candidates give video or written answers, upload files and answer multiple-choice questions, and Willo adds identity checks. Willo Intelligence gives transcripts, summaries, benchmarks and a criteria match percentage, which Willo describes as AI-assisted insights with human-led decisions. It works in 18+ languages, and anti-cheat features and custom scorecards are on Enterprise.
Who it suits: teams that want pay-per-role pricing with no contract, and candidates who can choose to write instead of record.
Pricing: published. Lite is £49 per live role a month with no contract, for up to 5 roles, 150 assessed candidates per role and 5 users. Enterprise is from £2,999 a year on a one-year contract, with 10% off for two years and 15% off for three, and non-profits get 50% off. Willo shows other currencies too; we've quoted pounds.
What to check: ATS integrations, such as Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, Oracle, Greenhouse, iCIMS, Lever, BambooHR, Workable and Ashby, are on Enterprise; Lite connects only through Zapier or Integrately.
What are the camera-free alternatives to one-way video?
If the camera is the problem, because candidates apply from a phone on a shift, because you'd rather appearance didn't enter the first impression, or because too many people never finish, two other formats ask for less.
DIO: a two-way voice interview
DIO is the AI interviewer made by Dio, which publishes this page. Instead of recording answers to a camera, candidates talk with DIO in the browser whenever it suits them, with a microphone and never a camera; most interviews take about 15 minutes. Unlike a one-way recording, DIO follows up when an answer is thin or vague, and at the end it answers the candidate's own questions from a Q&A the recruiter has reviewed.
The team gets the recording, the transcript and a scorecard. Each competency is rated 1 to 5 against anchors written for the role, every score must quote the candidate's exact words, checked against the transcript, and two different AI models grade each competency independently, leaving the score blank when the evidence isn't there. A person on the team makes every hiring decision.
Compared with one-way video: a conversation in place of a recital, and nothing on camera.
What to check: reviewers hear candidates but never see them, which some teams want at this stage and others don't, and interviews are in English only. Dio doesn't send invitations itself, so the link goes out through your own email, ATS or job posting, and results leave as CSV or Excel exports and a PDF summary of each interview.
Sapia.ai: a typed chat interview
Sapia.ai replaces the video with a typed chat interview of five to seven open questions, untimed and usually 20 to 30 minutes; Sapia says no camera is used and there is no video recording. It scores soft skills, behavior traits and overall cognitive ability from the text, ranks applicants, and emails every candidate a personality profile and a coaching tip. It works in nine languages and integrates with Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, SmartRecruiters, Greenhouse, iCIMS and others.
Compared with one-way video: written answers instead of recorded ones, which suits some roles and candidates better than others.
What to check: pricing isn't published, and spoken skills don't show up in a typed answer.
How do you choose one-way video interview software?
Five questions decide most purchases.
- Do you need to see candidates at this stage? If presence on camera is part of the job, video earns its place. If not, a voice or chat interview asks less of the candidate. Our guide to candidate experience in AI interviews covers what makes candidates finish.
- How will reviewers score the answers? Decide the questions and the rating anchors before you pick a tool. Our interview question generator suggests structured questions with follow-ups and what a strong answer sounds like for each competency.
- What does the price count? Hireflix and Spark Hire price by company size, Willo per live role, Interviewer.AI in credits, and Talview in units with a minimum. Work out what your real volume costs on each.
- Which ATS connections come with your plan? Interviewer.AI and Willo keep ATS integrations for Enterprise, and Spark Hire charges extra for Dayforce, UKG Pro and Workday. Ask to see a recording arrive in your own system.
- What will the candidate experience be? Take the interview yourself, on a phone, on a slow connection. Check the think time, the retakes and the answer types, and how clearly the invitation explains what the candidate is about to do.
