HireVue Alternatives: 6 AI Interview and Screening Tools Compared

Six HireVue alternatives compared by interview format, who each is built for and whether pricing is published, checked on each vendor's own site.

HireVue is an enterprise hiring platform known for video interviews and assessments, and in June 2026 it added an AI Interviewer that holds two-way voice interviews with applicants. Teams look at HireVue alternatives for practical reasons: they want a different interview format, such as a phone call, a text chat or a voice interview in the browser; they want a vendor that publishes its prices; or they need a first-round screen rather than a whole hiring platform.

This page compares six HireVue alternatives and competitors: Alex, DIO, HeyMilo, InterviewFlowAI, Paradox and Ribbon. They differ most on three things you can check quickly: how the candidate takes part, who the product is built for, and whether you can see a price before talking to sales.

Dio makes DIO, one of the tools on this page. Details checked on October 13, 2026 from each vendor's own website (other sources are named where used); products and prices change, so check the vendor's site before deciding.

HireVue alternatives at a glance

InterviewFlowAI Two-way AI interviews by video or phone, plus audio-only and role-play Startups, recruitment agencies, high-volume and global hiring Yes: from $59 a month
Paradox Chat and text screening (SMS, WhatsApp, Messenger, web chat), plus video interviews Frontline employers hiring at volume: retail, restaurants, franchises No
Ribbon Voice and video interviews in a browser, on a phone or computer Hourly, high-volume hiring and staffing agencies Yes: from $499 a month, billed annually

Read the format column first. Answering a call, recording on camera, replying to texts and talking in a browser tab are different tasks for a candidate, and the format shapes who finishes. Our comparison of AI screening interview formats goes through each one.

What is HireVue?

HireVue sells a hiring platform built around video interviewing and assessments. Its video interviews are either one-way, where the candidate records answers on their own schedule, or live, held in HireVue, Zoom, Teams or Webex. The assessments include games, language and coding tests and a Virtual Job Tryout. Automated scheduling and reminders, a chat agent for career sites, and connections to 45+ applicant tracking systems complete the platform.

The AI Interviewer, launched on June 18, 2026, holds two-way voice interviews with applicants at any hour, asks probing follow-up questions and answers candidates' questions. HireVue says responses are scored against IO-validated rubrics, built on industrial-organizational psychology, and it lists French, English, Spanish and Portuguese among the AI Interviewer's languages. It also advertises cheating mitigation, fraud detection and ID verification.

On decisions, the AI Interviewer page says recruiters always make the final call. HireVue also says every model passes adverse impact testing before it goes live and is independently audited each year. Its explainability statement says the AI in its video interviews relies only on what the candidate says, transcribed to text, and does not assess facial expressions, body language or tone of voice. SHRM reported in February 2021 that HireVue had dropped facial analysis from its assessments.

HireVue was founded in 2004 and says it has over 1,150 customers. Its pricing page shows no plans or prices, only a demo request.

Why do teams compare HireVue with other tools?

  • Format. HireVue's interviews are on video or, with the AI Interviewer, by voice. Teams that want candidates to answer by phone call or text chat compare tools by channel first.
  • Scope. HireVue covers video, assessments, scheduling and AI screening. A team that only needs the first-round conversation may want a narrower tool.
  • Price visibility. HireVue sells through demos. Teams that want to see a price first look at vendors with published plans.
  • Timing. The AI Interviewer is new, so it is worth asking HireVue for teams already using it on roles like yours.

Which HireVue alternatives are worth comparing?

The six tools below are listed alphabetically. Each entry covers what the tool is, who it suits and what to check, drawn from the vendor's own pages.

Alex

Alex is an AI recruiter that interviews, screens and schedules applicants; the company behind it is Apriora Inc., which does business as Alex. It holds two-way screening interviews by video, phone, SMS or WhatsApp, asks follow-up questions in real time, can place outbound voice calls and books the next interview on your team's calendar. Video interviews are recorded, transcribed and scored against a rubric, and Alex can check a government ID and a live selfie. It lists 33+ officially supported ATS integrations, including Workday, Greenhouse, iCIMS, Lever, SAP SuccessFactors and Bullhorn.

Who it suits: direct employers, RPO and staffing firms, and early-careers teams that want phone, video and messaging interviews from one vendor, including in markets where candidates mostly use WhatsApp.

What to check: prices aren't published. Alex's pages give different language counts, 26+ on the platform page and 30 on the homepage, so confirm the ones you need. Its ethical AI page says Alex does not automate hiring decisions and that no candidate is auto-rejected by AI.

DIO

DIO is the AI interviewer made by Dio, which publishes this page. It holds a structured voice interview with each candidate in the browser and follows up when an answer is thin or vague. Candidates open a link the recruiter shares, need a microphone but never a camera, and take the interview whenever it suits them; most interviews take about 15 minutes.

Each competency is rated 1 to 5 against anchors written for the role, and every score must quote the candidate's exact words, which are checked against the transcript. Two different AI models grade each competency independently. When the evidence isn't there, or the two models disagree about whether it is, the score is left blank rather than guessed. Knockout questions flag an answer for a recruiter to review, and a person on your team makes every hiring decision. Results export to CSV or Excel, with a PDF summary of each interview.

Who it suits: teams hiring in English that want a spoken first-round interview without scheduling, and scores they can trace to the candidate's own words.

What to check: interviews are in English only. Dio doesn't send invitations itself, so the link goes out through your own email, ATS or job posting, and results leave as exports and PDF summaries.

HeyMilo

HeyMilo is an AI recruiter for teams with more applications than they can screen. Its AI phone interviews either call the candidate or send a browser audio link, and its AI video interviews listen, respond and ask follow-up questions. It also screens by SMS, runs knockout questions on forms, offers scenario-based skill assessments and books a calendar slot after the screen. Scores come as configurable fit scores with a plain-language rationale, and HeyMilo names ATSs including Workday, Greenhouse, iCIMS, Bullhorn, Avionté and SmartRecruiters.

Who it suits: staffing agencies, BPOs, data-annotation firms, franchises and corporate recruiters screening large applicant pools, including healthcare and light industrial roles.

What to check: pricing isn't published; the pricing page is a demo form. HeyMilo's pages list 20+ languages on the homepage and 14+ on the phone and video pages, so confirm yours. Its responsible AI page says Warden AI runs monthly bias audits and that the AI is not making hiring decisions.

InterviewFlowAI

InterviewFlowAI is self-serve AI interview software for startups, agencies and talent teams, founded in 2025. Candidates take a two-way conversational interview by video or phone call at any hour, with email reminders, and the product also offers audio-only and role-play interviews, more than 100 skill assessments and a notetaker for recruiter calls. It supports 16 languages and 10 voices, and gives scorecards, rankings and transcripts. Face and eye tracking, tab-switch detection and a Trust Score are aimed at cheating. Greenhouse documents an integration with it.

Its prices are published: Pilot is $59 a month for 20 interview credits, without phone interviews or ATS integrations; Growth is $299 a month for 303 credits; Scale is $499 a month for 505 credits and adds cheat detection; Enterprise is custom. A 7-day trial includes 10 credits.

Who it suits: small teams that want to start without a sales call, and sales or call-center hiring where a role-play shows more than a question does.

What to check: which plan carries the features you need, since phone interviews start on Growth and cheat detection on Scale. Ask how its rankings are meant to feed a recruiter's decision.

Paradox

Paradox makes conversational hiring software built around an AI assistant called Olivia, for frontline employers hiring at volume. Workday completed its acquisition of Paradox in October 2025. Candidates apply and screen by SMS, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger or web chat, where Olivia checks minimum qualifications, schedules interviews, sends reminders and answers candidate questions around the clock. Paradox also offers recorded video responses and live in-browser video interviews, and names integrations with Workday, SAP SuccessFactors and Indeed, plus an open API.

Who it suits: retail, restaurant, franchise, healthcare, logistics, manufacturing and hospitality employers hiring hourly staff, particularly Workday or SAP SuccessFactors customers.

What to check: pricing isn't published. Screening happens in chat and text, so if you want a spoken interview with follow-up questions, ask Paradox what it offers. Its pages give different language counts, 100+ in one place and 30+ in another.

Ribbon

Ribbon calls its AI interviewer Bonnie and places it between the application and the first human-led interview. It runs structured voice and video interviews at any hour on a phone or computer with a modern browser, follows up when an answer needs more detail, and sends invitations by SMS, email or WhatsApp. Ribbon supports 10+ languages, gives rubric scores and a recommendation, says it syncs with 60+ ATSs (naming Greenhouse, Workday, Ashby, UKG and Workable), and flags integrity signals such as looking away, background voices and scripted answers for a reviewer.

Ribbon publishes its prices, billed annually: Growth is $499 a month for 100 interviews, Business $999 for 400 and Scale $1,999 for 1,000. Enterprise is custom, and the other plans come with a 7-day free trial.

Who it suits: hourly, high-volume hiring in warehousing, retail, restaurants, hotels, home care and contact centers, plus staffing agencies and job boards.

What to check: whether the monthly interview allowance fits your volume; overage on Growth is $4.00 an interview. Ribbon says the final hiring decision remains entirely with the human recruiter.

How do you choose a HireVue alternative?

Start with your candidates and your roles rather than the feature list. Five questions settle most shortlists, and our guide on how to choose AI interview software has fifteen to ask in a demo.

  1. Which format will your candidates finish? Hourly applicants on a shift, nurses between rotations and engineers at their desks respond to different formats. Picture your typical applicant taking the interview on the day they apply, and tell them plainly what it is: in Greenhouse's May 2026 survey of 1,200 US job seekers, a vendor survey, 38% said they had abandoned a hiring process because it had an AI interview, and 70% said they weren't clearly told beforehand.
  2. Do you need a platform or a screen? HireVue bundles video, assessments, scheduling and an AI interviewer. If your gap is the first-round conversation, a narrower tool may cover it; if you also need assessments or live video, compare like with like.
  3. What evidence sits behind each score? Ask for a real scorecard from a pilot interview. Check that you can see what the candidate said to earn each rating, and open the transcript and recording behind it. Our explainer on what an AI interviewer is covers what a useful scorecard holds.
  4. Who makes the decision? Vendors describe human control in different words, so ask what the tool does on its own. Does a knockout answer end the interview, reject the candidate or flag it for review? Does a low score hide anyone from the recruiter?
  5. Will the vendor run a pilot on your own roles? Put real candidates for one or two open roles through it, have a recruiter rate a sample independently, and compare. A demo shows the product; a pilot shows how it handles your candidates.
