Alex AI Recruiter Alternatives: 7 AI Interview Tools Compared

Seven alternatives to Alex, the AI recruiter, compared by interview format, who each suits and whether prices are published, checked on each vendor's site.

Alex is an AI recruiter that holds two-way screening interviews with applicants by video, phone, SMS or WhatsApp, then books the next interview on your team's calendar. Teams look for Alex alternatives when they want a vendor that publishes its prices, one interview format run the same way for every candidate, a tool built for their kind of hiring, or a broader platform with assessments and live video.

This page compares seven Alex alternatives and competitors: DIO, HeyMilo, HireVue, InterviewFlowAI, Paradox, Ribbon and Tenzo. Some cover as many channels as Alex does; others do one thing, such as text-based screening for frontline roles or a voice interview in the browser.

Dio makes DIO, one of the tools on this page. Details checked on October 13, 2026 from each vendor's own website (other sources are named where used); products and prices change, so check the vendor's site before deciding.

Alex's strength is range: one vendor for phone, video and messaging interviews. The useful question is whether your candidates need that range. Where applicants live on WhatsApp, it can decide the shortlist; for desk-based professional roles, one format run well may serve you better. Our comparison of AI screening interview formats sets out what each one asks of a candidate.

What is Alex?

Alex is an AI recruiter that interviews, screens and schedules applicants. The company is Apriora Inc., which does business as Alex, and apriora.ai now redirects to alex.com, so older reviews and articles may use either name. TechCrunch reported in September 2025 that Alex had raised a $17 million Series A led by Peak XV, after a $3 million seed round led by 1984 Ventures.

According to its platform page, Alex holds two-way screening interviews by video, phone, SMS or WhatsApp, asks follow-up questions in real time and can place outbound voice calls. Video interviews are recorded, transcribed and scored against a rubric, and Alex books the next interview on your team's calendar. It can check a government ID and a live selfie, and its Proctor feature flags cheating. Alex lists 33+ officially supported ATS integrations, including Workday, Greenhouse, iCIMS, Lever, SAP SuccessFactors and Bullhorn. It sells to direct employers, RPO and staffing firms, and early-careers teams, with healthcare, manufacturing and logistics, biotech, retail and hospitality, and professional services among its industries.

On decisions, Alex's ethical AI page says it does not automate hiring decisions and that no candidate is auto-rejected by AI. A post on its blog from August 2025 says Warden AI audited it for bias and that Alex passed all audit criteria. Prices aren't on the site; buyers book a demo.

Why do teams compare Alex with other tools?

  • Price. Alex sells through demos. Teams that want to see a price before a sales call look at vendors with published plans.
  • Format. Alex offers many channels. Some teams want every candidate to take the same interview in the same format, so scores compare like with like.
  • Scope. Alex interviews, schedules and verifies identity. A team that only needs the first-round interview may want a narrower tool; one that also needs assessments or live video may want a platform.
  • Languages. Alex's pages give different counts, 26+ on the platform page and 30 on the homepage, so teams hiring in several languages confirm theirs.

Which Alex alternatives are worth comparing?

The seven tools below are listed alphabetically. Each entry covers what the tool is, how it differs from Alex and what to check, drawn from the vendor's own pages.

DIO

DIO is the AI interviewer made by Dio, which publishes this page. Candidates open a link the recruiter shares and hold a structured voice interview in the browser whenever it suits them, with a microphone and never a camera; most interviews take about 15 minutes. DIO follows up when an answer is thin or vague, and at the end answers the candidate's own questions from a Q&A the recruiter has reviewed.

Each competency is rated 1 to 5 against anchors written for the role, and every score must quote the candidate's exact words, which are checked against the transcript. Two different AI models grade each competency independently, and when the evidence isn't there, or the models disagree about whether it is, the score is left blank rather than guessed. Knockout questions flag an answer for a recruiter to review, and a person on your team makes every hiring decision.

Compared with Alex: one format instead of several. DIO interviews by voice in the browser only, with no text, messaging or video interviews, and it doesn't book the next round on your calendar.

What to check: interviews are in English only. Dio doesn't send invitations itself, so the link goes out through your own email, ATS or job posting, and results leave as CSV or Excel exports and a PDF summary of each interview.

HeyMilo

HeyMilo is an AI recruiter for teams swamped by applications. Its AI phone interviews either call the candidate or send a browser audio link, and in its AI video interviews the AI listens, responds and asks follow-up questions. It also screens by SMS, runs knockout questions on forms, offers scenario-based skill assessments and books a calendar slot after the screen. HeyMilo gives configurable fit scores with a plain-language rationale and names ATSs including Workday, Greenhouse, iCIMS, Bullhorn, Avionté and JobDiva.

Compared with Alex: a close match on phone and video interviews and booking after the screen, with SMS screening and skill assessments added. SMS is the messaging channel its pages describe, so ask about WhatsApp if your candidates rely on it. Its responsible AI page says Warden AI runs monthly bias audits and that the AI is not making hiring decisions.

What to check: pricing isn't published. HeyMilo's pages list 20+ languages on the homepage and 14+ on the phone and video pages, so confirm yours.

HireVue

HireVue is an enterprise hiring platform for one-way and live video interviews and assessments, including games, coding tests and a Virtual Job Tryout. On June 18, 2026 it launched an AI Interviewer that holds two-way voice interviews with applicants at any hour, asks probing follow-up questions and answers candidates' questions. Answers are scored against rubrics HireVue calls IO-validated, and it advertises cheating mitigation, fraud detection and ID verification.

Compared with Alex: a wider platform, with assessments, live video in HireVue, Zoom, Teams or Webex, scheduling, and conversational AI over SMS and WhatsApp alongside the interviews. HireVue's AI Interviewer page says recruiters always make the final call.

What to check: pricing isn't published. The AI Interviewer is new, and the pages we read don't say whether candidates join it by phone or in a browser, so ask, and ask for teams already using it on roles like yours. Our page on HireVue alternatives goes deeper.

InterviewFlowAI

InterviewFlowAI is self-serve AI interview software for startups, agencies and talent teams, founded in 2025. Candidates take a two-way conversational interview by video or phone call at any hour, with email reminders, and the product also offers audio-only and role-play interviews, more than 100 skill assessments and a notetaker for recruiter calls. It supports 16 languages and 10 voices, gives scorecards, rankings and transcripts, and uses face and eye tracking, tab-switch detection and a Trust Score against cheating.

Compared with Alex: you can sign up and start without a sales call, and the prices are published: Pilot is $59 a month for 20 interview credits, Growth $299 a month for 303 credits and Scale $499 a month for 505 credits, with Enterprise priced on request and a 7-day trial with 10 credits.

What to check: phone interviews and ATS integrations aren't on the Pilot plan, and cheat detection starts on Scale. Its site names no ATS, though Greenhouse documents an integration. Ask how its rankings are meant to feed a recruiter's decision.

Paradox

Paradox, part of Workday since October 2025, makes conversational hiring software built around an AI assistant called Olivia, for frontline employers hiring at volume. Candidates apply and screen by SMS, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger or web chat, where Olivia checks minimum qualifications, schedules interviews, sends reminders and answers candidate questions around the clock. Paradox also offers recorded video responses and live in-browser video interviews, and names integrations with Workday, SAP SuccessFactors and Indeed, plus an open API.

Compared with Alex: text and chat first. Paradox shares Alex's messaging channels, but the pages we read describe no AI voice interview; its strength is applying, screening and scheduling inside a text thread.

What to check: pricing isn't published, and its pages give different language counts, 100+ in one place and 30+ in another. Our page on Paradox alternatives covers it in depth.

Ribbon

Ribbon calls its AI interviewer Bonnie and places it between the application and the first human-led interview. It runs structured voice and video interviews at any hour on a phone or computer with a modern browser, follows up when an answer needs more detail, and sends invitations by SMS, email or WhatsApp. Ribbon supports 10+ languages, gives rubric scores and a recommendation, says it syncs with 60+ ATSs (naming Greenhouse, Workday, Ashby, UKG and Workable), and flags integrity signals such as looking away, background voices and scripted answers for a reviewer.

Compared with Alex: published prices and a free trial. Ribbon's plans, billed annually, start with Growth at $499 a month for 100 interviews; Business is $999 for 400 and Scale $1,999 for 1,000, and every plan but Enterprise comes with a 7-day free trial.

What to check: whether the monthly allowance fits your volume, since overage on Growth is $4.00 an interview, and whether candidates who can't use a browser have another route. Ribbon says the final hiring decision remains entirely with the human recruiter.

Tenzo

Tenzo sells an AI recruiter called Morgan that screens, interviews and schedules candidates by phone, text, email and WhatsApp. It describes AI phone or video interviews around the clock, books next-round interviews and writes the score, transcript and recording to the candidate's record. Recruiters define the criteria, the weighting and the knockout questions. Tenzo lists 57 or more integrations, including Bullhorn, Workday, iCIMS, SAP SuccessFactors, Greenhouse, UKG, Dayforce and Salesforce, says it works in more than 40 languages, and checks 40+ signals for cheating and stolen identities.

Compared with Alex: the nearest match on channels, WhatsApp included, with staffing agencies and RPOs among its named buyers. Tenzo says a person reads the record and makes the decision, that a de-biasing layer removes protected-class information from transcripts before evaluation, and that candidates can opt out of AI interviews.

What to check: pricing is by tailored quote, and its site doesn't say when the company was founded. Our page on Tenzo alternatives has more.

How do you choose an Alex alternative?

Five questions settle most shortlists. Our guide on how to choose AI interview software has fifteen to ask in a demo.

  1. Which channels do your candidates actually use? Look at where your applicants reply today: text, WhatsApp, email or a link they open on a laptop. A channel nobody answers is a feature you pay for and don't use.
  2. Do you need one tool or one step? Alex and Tenzo interview, schedule and check candidates. If your recruiters already schedule well, a narrower interview tool may be enough; if you want assessments too, look at a platform.
  3. What evidence sits behind each score? Ask for a real scorecard from a pilot. Check that every rating shows what the candidate said to earn it, with the transcript and recording a click away. Our explainer on how AI interview scoring works covers what to look for.
  4. What does a failed knockout do? Flagging an answer for review and rejecting a candidate automatically are very different policies. Our guide to knockout questions explains why a flag is safer.
  5. What will candidates be told? In Greenhouse's May 2026 survey of 1,200 US job seekers, a vendor survey, 70% said they were never clearly told up front that AI would be evaluating them, and 46% wanted the option to request a human interview instead. Ask each vendor what a candidate sees before the interview starts.
